Co-founder of Homework Turtle. I was the student this is for.
Who I am
I co-founded Homework Turtle, which is made by Oddball Outpost, LLC in Mineola, New York. I was the student this is for: not the one who didn’t care, the one who cared a lot and still couldn’t find the assignment, or started it Thursday night. You can read the whole story on the About page.
My background
I’ve been building and running video systems since I was 13, starting as a producer, technical director and camera operator at my school district’s TV channel, Great Neck Public Schools TV. I earned a B.F.A. in Television Production & Digital Film at New York Institute of Technology in three years instead of four, then an M.A. in Communication Arts with distinction. In 2019 the New York chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences gave me a scholarship award.
Since then I’ve worked in broadcast operations, including master control and newsroom tech, and as an AV and IT systems engineer, most recently for FIRST Agency. Most of that work is keeping complicated systems calm and dependable, especially when something breaks. That’s what I want Homework Turtle to be for a student at 9 p.m. More on my work at billymiecuna.com and LinkedIn.
What I write about
The guides on this site are for parents of kids with ADHD, autism and dyslexia: getting homework started, 504 plans and IEPs, reading supports, routines, and talking to the teacher.
How the guides are put together
Every guide is built from the sources listed at the bottom of it, such as the CDC, the American Academy of Pediatrics, CHADD, the U.S. Department of Education, the International Dyslexia Association and Understood. When a guide says something helps, it’s because one of those sources says so. The guides are general information, not medical or legal advice, and each one shows the date it was last updated. If you spot a mistake, email support@homeworkturtle.com and I’ll fix it.
